K&F Magnetic filter kit

K&F Magnetic filter kit

One of the reasons I don't use filters for my lens is because it's such a hassle to put the filters on the lens and to take them off since they use thread. This means you have to screw the filters on and off which takes a lot of time. K&F solved this issue with their Magnetic Filter kit. Their filters just snap magnetically onto the lens which makes it so much easier and faster to change filters.

The kit includes a magnetic adapter ring (to make the front of the lens magnetic), a UV filter, a CPL filter, and an ND1000 filter. All the filters have 16 layers of coating, with high-definition, waterproof, scratch-resistant, anti-reflection functions. The filters are really thin and don't cause vignetting up until a 16mm lens.

ND1000 filter

The ND1000 filter is like sunglasses for your camera / lens. They make the image a lot darker. "Well, why would you want that?" you may ask. If you want to take a long exposure during the day when the sun is shining bright, it's almost impossible to take long exposure photos. You can set your aperture to something like F22, your ISO to 100, and then set your shutter speed accordingly to get an evenly exposed image but the issue with this is that any long exposure time (like longer than 1 sec.) will produce an overexposed image.

This filter will make the image 10 stops darker, meaning you can lower your shutter speed by 10 stops. This allows you to take long exposures even when it's bright outside.

CPL filter

A CPL filter blocks reflections. This means you can take photos of water without the sun reflecting on the water and shining in the lens. With the filter, you can see the true colors of the water and even see through the water (if the water is clear enough). You can also use this filter to photograph cars. The filter will block any reflecting sunlight on let's say the hood of the car resulting in more professional photos.

Using this filter will also give the sky deeper colors and more contrast.

I did notice this filter gives the images a green tint and makes the image a bit darker. This is normal, the coatings on the lens are the cause of this.

UV filter

A UV (ultraviolet) filter blocks UV light. In all modern cameras, there's a UV and IR filter already on the image sensor which means your camera blocks UV light by default. This makes the UV blocking feature kinda useless. However, UV filters are still used a lot to protect the lens. Since they're in front of the lens, they will protect it from scratches, dust, smudges, and flying pieces of dirt.

When photographing something like a motorsports event, there's always a change of debris flying to the lens. The UV filter will then protect the lens from the debris.

The filter is super clear and doesn't cause any hue or tint shifts or loss of light. This means you can leave the filter always on the lens without having to worry about it decreasing image quality.

Something important to note is that this filter has to screw on the lens, it doesn't snap magnetically onto the lens. The UV filter will make the front of the lens magnetic so you can put other filters like the ND1000 or CPL filter on top of it.

Magnetic adapter ring

The adapter ring is just a ring with threads to make the front of the lens magnetic. You simply screw this adapter on top of your lens (like any other filter that isn't magnetic). After you've done this, you can just magnetically snap the CPL or ND1000 filter onto the lens.

Since the filter doesn't have any glass, you can always leave it on the lens to make sure it's always magnetic and ready to put other filters magnetically on top of it.

Conclusion

The Magnetic Filter kit has three high-quality filters and one adapter ring. Since they're magnetic, you can really quickly snap the filters on the lens and take them off. This is such a useful feature when you're in the field shooting something important and you don't wanna lose time changing filters.

If you don't know which filter size to buy, it's best to always buy the largest size you can afford. You can always attach a larger filter on a smaller lens with setup-up rings but you can't attach a smaller filter on a larger lens. K&F also sells step-up and step-down rings which are also linked below.
